On July 21, 1967, former Red Sox slugger and Hall of Famer Jimmie Foxx died while eating dinner with his brother. Foxx had won the Triple Crown with the Philadelphia Athletics in 1933, and in the year of Foxx's death baseball witnessed its most modern Triple Crown winner in another Beantown slugger, Carl Yastrzemski. The Red Sox took their first American League Pennant since 1946 and met the St. Louis Cardinals once again in the World Series. Once again, the Cardinals defeated the Red Sox in the decisive seventh game, leaving Boston with the memories of their last World Series title in 1918.
